September World Economic Prospects

Each month Oxford Economics’ team of 160 economists updates its baseline global economic outlook for 200 countries using the Global Economic Model, the only fully integrated economic forecasting framework of its kind.

September, 2016

  • Our growth forecast for 2016 is steady this month at 2.3%, but the 2017 forecast has been cut to 2.7% from 2.9%.
  • The near-term outlook has been supported by a rally in financial markets since mid-February and consumer demand still looks healthy in the US and the Eurozone.
  • As a result, the world economy still looks likely to avoid recession although risks remain skewed to the downside.
