Junior Economist/Economist – Africa Forecasting

Oxford Economics Africa, a majority-owned subsidiary of Oxford Economics that specialises in political and macroeconomic research in Africa, is hiring for a Junior Economist/Economist for our Paarl office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performing macroeconomic analysis and forecasting on a selection of countries in Africa
  • Thorough research on all factors that could affect the countries’ political and policy environments and economies
  • Analysis on what that might mean for different drivers, and putting our analysis (and expectations for the future) into clear, readable language for use in our subscription products
  • Learning and adapting to the use of the Oxford Economics Global Economic Model, the tool that informs our macroeconomic projections and scenarios.
Key Requirements
  • Strong grasp of economic theory, as well as a keen interest in current affairs and be able to present your conclusions clearly and in detail in writing, as well as verbally.
  • Working with large datasets and be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • High standard of written English is a key requirement
  • At least a BComm Honours in Economics, Econometrical Analysis or Econometrics, or else a BA Honours with a PPE as first degree. A Master’s degree (in Economics or Political Science) will be preferable.
