UK economic key themes for 2025

But at the same time, many forecasters – including the Office for Budget Responsibility and the Bank of England – have become more optimistic about prospects for 2025. We take a more cautious view and in this webinar we'll look at four key themes that we expect to shape the outlook for the UK economy in 2025.

UK monetary policy outlook: short- and long-term

We will reflect on the messages from May’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting, analysing whether a summer rate cut remains on the table. We will then move on to look at how restrictive the Bank of England’s monetary policy stance is and how far rates might fall in this rate cutting cycle, introducing our estimates of the long-run UK neutral interest rate.

What can AE central banks learn from EMs?

Major advanced economy (AE) central banks have been criticised for the extent to which inflation has overshot target. Indeed, sticky core inflation and strong wage growth have prompted the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Bank of Canada to resume tightening after a pause, while the Bank of England has been forced to increase the rate of tightening once again. In this webinar, we explore the extent to which AEs would be in a stronger position had they followed some of their emerging market (EM) counterparts and hiked earlier.
