Queensland Budget maintains sizeable pipeline of work in Australia
Support for first home buyers grows, but delivery risks loom over major projects.
The 2025/26 Queensland Budget delivered little to shift the near-term outlook for building and civil engineering activity. This was the Crisafulli government’s first Budget since winning last October’s election, with keen focus on how they will deliver their pre-election commitments.
- On the housing front, first home buyers continued to be the key recipient of support with the announcement of the generous Boost to Buy shared equity scheme. This builds on the removal of stamp duty and the extension of the First Home Owner Grant boost earlier this year. Combined, these schemes represent upside for dwelling prices.
- For non-residential building, much of the focus was on financing existing works, including the confirmation of funding for projects for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. In terms of new projects, there were a handful of school and TAFE developments flagged, while the Budget also pointed to a forthcoming expansion of the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre which may provide upside late decade. The Sunshine State has embarked on a massive pipeline of public projects and question marks remain over the capacity to deliver them.
