The Future of US-China Relations

Harry Murphy Cruise is the Head of Economic Research and Global Trade at Oxford Economics Australia. He leads the Australian Macroeconomic Service and global trade initiatives, including TradePrism. Harry frequently provides insights to major media outlets, including CNBC, BBC, Reuters, and the Wall Street Journal. His research primarily focuses on global trade and investment flows, with particular interest in the challenges and opportunities of economic decoupling.

Harry holds a master’s degree in international and development economics from the Australian National University and a bachelor’s degree in arts and commerce from Monash University. He is a PhD candidate at ANU, exploring the role of China’s diverse households and firms in the country’s economic transition.

Prior to joining Oxford Economics, Harry was the Head of China and Australia Economics at Moody’s Analytics. He was previously responsible for Australian state and territory analysis at Deloitte Access Economics.

Louise Loo is the Head of Asia Economics at Oxford Economics. She leads the firm’s macroeconomic research and forecasting efforts on Greater China.

Prior to joining Oxford Economics, she was a senior economist at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. At Goldman Sachs, she was also a long-term advisor to China Ministry of Finance and the China-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) with regards to their sovereign credit ratings.

Louise is a regular contributor to various international financial news outlets and has earned Economics and public policy degrees with Sheffield University and Columbia University.

Michael Pearce is Chief US Economist at Oxford Economics, based in New York. He leads US macroeconomic research and forecasting, and his team is ranked among Bloomberg’s top forecasters for major US economic indicators. Before joining Oxford Economics, Michael was a senior economist on the US team at Capital Economics and worked at HM Treasury in the UK. He holds degrees in Economic History from the London School of Economics and in Economics from University College London, and has lived and worked in the UK and Switzerland.

Based in Sydney, Lance Truong is an Associate Director Geopolitical and Country Risk in Control Risks’ Global Risks Analysis practice and the firm’s lead geopolitical analyst in Australia. He specialises in geopolitical, political, security and regulatory risks across China, North-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Previously, Lance worked in geopolitical risk consulting and at a Big 4 firm in Tokyo focused on defence and national security, and began his career as an Australian diplomat posted to China. He holds first-class honours in Japanese Studies from Monash University and a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University as a Fulbright scholar, and is proficient in Japanese and Mandarin.

Jonathan is a Principal in Control Risks’ geopolitical and strategic risk advisory team. He provides analysis and strategic advisory on political, operational, security, and integrity risks to multinational organizations in the technology, financial, energy, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and industrial sectors. His subject matter expertise encompasses geopolitics, economic development, sanctions, and transnational security issues.
