The latest Labor Market Tracker indicates a balanced labor market, with job conditions remaining stable in August, similar to July. A positive trend is noted in the broadening of job gains, reducing reliance on the healthcare sector.
While hiring and layoffs have remained low, the recent payroll data suggests that the apparent strength in job growth may be overstated due to seasonal factors. The three-month moving average of job growth stands at 71,000, aligning closely with the estimated break-even pace of 50,000 for this year.
Encouragingly, job growth has diversified beyond healthcare, with sectors like transportation and professional services showing increased momentum. However, information and financial activities continue to experience job losses, largely attributed to the adoption of AI technologies.
