A new study prepared by Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company, examines the economic impact supported by Booking.com across Europe in 2025.

The analysis traces travel booked through Booking.com and the wider economic activity it generated, as visitor spending flowed through local businesses and supply chains, generating wages, jobs, and public revenues.

The impact extended well beyond the point of purchase, with Booking.com-linked travel supporting €691 billion in total economic output across Europe.

Key Findings

In 2025, economic activity associated with Booking.com-supported travel contributed:

  • €691 billion in total economic output
  • €344 billion in GDP
  • 4.7 million jobs supported
  • €175 billion in wages
  • €137 billion in tax revenues
Visitor spending supported businesses across Europe.

Travellers who booked their trip through Booking.com spent €291 billion during their stays. This direct spending supported hospitality, retail, transport, entertainment, and other visitor-serving sectors.

While hospitality represented the largest spending category, more than half of visitor spending reached businesses beyond hospitality, underscoring the wider role travel plays in local economies.

Booking.com-linked travel directly supported €152 billion in GDP and nearly 2.5 million jobs.

The impact extended beyond direct spending.

Supplier purchases, employee wage spending, and cross-border trade effects, generated additional economic activity, bringing the total contribution to €691 billion in output across Europe.
