Identifying hotspots for economic growth in 2024. Many cities tend to outperform their national economies. With the possibility that 2024 will be another disappointing year for the world economy, we look at North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, and identify some cities that we think are likely to show out-performance.

Richard is a key member of our cities team, working on both our standard forecasting and scenario services and on bespoke consultancy projects for individual clients. He is particularly interested in the long-run drivers of regional and city performance, how these relate to macroeconomic factors, and whether or not policy interventions help to improve performance at the local and regional levels. Richard leads many of our flagship projects and presents regularly, both online and at conferences and other events.

His career has included spells in New York and Birmingham, England, with a variety of economic consultancies and forecasters. He is an independent director of the outdoor arts consortium Without Walls; a trustee of the Property Research Trust; and in 2020 was the joint winner of the prestigious Rybczynski Prize awarded by the Society of Professional Economists for the year’s best piece of writing on economics: How robots change the world: their impact on regional inequalities.
