London Monitor | The economy is moving forward despite a rise in Covid cases

There has been a rise in Covid 19 cases , exacerbated by the more transmissible Delta variant. As a result, the Oxford Economics Normality Tracker shows London’s return to normality slowed in May and the start of June. London now lags other major European cities.
What you will learn:
- The latest evidence from the Oxford Economics Normality Tracker shows that London continued on an uneven path towards normality throughout May and into the first week of June, as rising cases
slowed recovery - Survey evidence suggests that business activity in London improved further in May, and that there was a sharp rise in business optimism. This is likely to have continued
- There were fewer planning approvals in London in the opening quarter of 2021 than in Q4 2020, with the slowdown mainly
occurring in Inner London
