Lead Economist
About the role
You will be a key member of the team responsible for producing economic research and forecasts for the Asia Global Macro Service, one of Oxford Economics leading subscription products.
Reporting to the Head of Asia Economics, you will be responsible for providing regular macroeconomic output at both a country level and on exchange and interest rates, considering both fundamental and market-oriented factors. Developing research ideas and providing forecasts on economies as part of our Global Macro Service, this is an exciting opportunity in a fast-growing part of the company. You will also be required to present to clients and field their queries as and when needed.
You will be primarily forecasting and writing research on country and regional thematic macroeconomic issues. Being able to write compelling reasearch on bond and foreign exchange markets across Asia from a fundamental perspective is a plus. You will also be expected to contribute to the economic thinking that shapes our view and research themes on the region, including forecasting a country. Collaborating with the rest of the Asia macro team and our macro teams globally will be a central part of your role.
You have a flair for good writing, have strong quantitive skills, and are a confident presenter who enjoys communicating innovative research and can build strong client relationships over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Contributing to the macroeconomic forecasts that are both country specific and regional.
- Writing analytical research and presenting research themes including on financial market issues
- Interacting internally with other economists/strategists.
- Interacting with clients/prospects, presenting at client events
Person Specification
The profile, orientation and skills that you will bring to the team include:
- More than five years’ experience as an economist with experience writing on financial market issues would help you stand out.
- Strong track record in analytical work and writing independent research reports to tight deadlines
- Excellent academic training with an advanced degree in economics/finance – a top Masters or a PhD will help you stand out.
- Strong quantitivae skills will be a plus as will knowledge of Korean.
