Emerging Technology

Continuous innovation is critical to survival
in the digital economy as emerging
technologies change the way
we live and work

Oxford Economics is constantly scanning the horizon for new applications of emerging technologies

Our research focused on the cloud in 2013, Big Data in 2015, and artificial intelligence in 2018.

Our work covers executive strategies and tactics for investing in and extracting value from the latest business technologies. Built upon in-depth surveys and conversations with executives around the world, our papers, graphics, and videos explore technology’s ability to disrupt traditional ways of working, shape culture, and drive business performance.

Examples of our work within the emerging technology sector include:

Annual Digital IQ Survey

Over the past 11 years, PwC’s Annual Digital IQ Study has been a cornerstone of business technology research, providing insight into trends and strategies shaping transformation and the deployment of emerging technologies.

Oxford Economics regularly works with PwC to design, field, and analyze large-scale surveys of executives from more than 60 countries. Our studies assess progress toward digital transformation around the world and across industries, home in on the global and technology trends of the moment, and outline next steps for executives reshaping their company strategies.

The Global CIO Point of View

Machine learning has arrived in the enterprise, and companies are eager to reap the competitive benefits the technology can provide. From automating processes that enable faster business operations to applying algorithms to improve accuracy, CIOs are adapting the technology for a wide variety of uses—and transforming the way we work.

We partnered with ServiceNow to survey 500 Chief Information Officers around the world and across industries. Our survey explored the strategies CIOs are adopting to realize value from machine learning, and the competitive advantage for organizations that are advancing to decision automation.

The Future of Data

2018 will be remembered as a landmark year in the history of the data economy, marked by a dramatic increase in consumer awareness of the power, scope, and risks of corporate data strategies, and by sweeping changes to the regulatory environment.

Oxford Economics worked with NTT DATA during the spring of 2018 to survey 500 executives and 5,000 consumers in 15 countries about their visions for a future shaped by data. Our report presents our findings about this pivotal moment in the development of the data economy.

The Cloud Grows Up

Oxford Economics conducted a global survey of 200 business and technology executives to better understand how companies are using cloud platforms.

Consistent with an earlier version of the same survey, the results show widespread enthusiasm about the cloud’s transformative potential – but with a more mature appreciation of the challenges and payoffs as it moves along Gartner’s “Hype Cycle.” Investment remains strong and many companies are already reaping the benefits as the cloud becomes the primary platform for business.
