Users of the Global Model Workstation (GMW) can share selections by exporting and importing them as
.gmws files. To facilitate selection sharing on a regular basis within an organisation, GMW can automatically import
.gmws files from a special folder on the user’s computer. The organisation can then arrange for updated selections to be pushed out to users by distributing
.gmws files to the relevant folder on each user’s computer.
The GMW selection import folder is listed under Settings -> Application folders. Please note that this folder cannot be changed by the user. At the time of writing, the folder is:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Oxford Economics\Julienne\Selections to import.
How to import
The author of the selection exports it from GMW to a
.gmwsfile using Open -> Export from the View and download data area.
.gmwsfile can be copied to to the recipient user’s GMW import folder (e.g. using a Group Policy or a scheduled task)
- The next time the recipient user launches GMW, the selection is automatically imported into his/her collection. If the filename of the incoming selection matches the name of an existing selection, the latter is overwritten.
- The recipient can also trigger an import manually by choosing File -> Import selections from the main menu.
- An automatically-imported selection will overwrite an existing selection with the same name. Care should be taken to avoid loss of the receiving user’s work. For example, selections shared via this method could follow a naming convention which makes it clear they should not be amended by the receiving user.
.gmwsfile in the import folder will be deleted when it has been successfully imported. Always copy a file to the import folder instead of moving it or saving it there directly.
