The potential implications of independence for businesses in Scotland
We were asked by FTSE 100 engineering company The Weir Group to assess the likely impact of Scottish independence on businesses in Scotland. Focusing on the implications for funding costs and the currency choice, corporate taxation, trade, and pensions, our report sets out a detailed and wide ranging examination of the consequences - both positive and negative – of a move to independence. The analysis quantifies many of these effects in order to inform the public debate ahead of September’s referendum.
