Malaysia: Building and Construction in Malaysia 2021-2025: November 2021 Update

Total construction work done fell 21.0% y/y in Q3, as the pandemic-induced ‘total lockdown’ meant all construction works (unless critical) were once again suspended. This also forced the government to divert some funds away from construction works towards the COVID-19 fund. Overall, we have downgraded our total work done forecast in 2021 to 3.5% from 10.0%. Activity is then forecast to ramp up in 2022 (+18.5%) to clear the growing backlog of projects, followed by growth at around 7.7% pa over the three years to 2025.
