Border reopening progress spurring migration recovery

An accelerated COVID-19 vaccine rollout has shifted Australia towards the high end of vaccine uptake globally, pulling forward Australia’s border reopening. While aggregate travel flows will be constrained for some time, we see net overseas migration (NOM) returning to its pre-pandemic base in Q3 2022. This is roughly two quarters earlier than previously assumed, with the speedier recovery to help alleviate pinch points in the labour market and support service exports.
