Powell says supply chain disruptions tilt inflation risks up

Fed Chairman Powell, speaking at a South African Reserve Bank virtual event, maintained his view that the sharp acceleration in inflation is likely to be “transitory” and moderate as global supply chains disruptions eventually ease. However, he acknowledged that “elevated inflation is likely to last longer than expected” with risks tilted to the upside as supply-side constraints will linger well into 2022.
