Japan: Building and Construction in Japan 2020-2024: August 2020 Update

​The decline in residential and non-residential building starts in Q2 is expected to have accelerated, amid the state of emergency during April, subsequent social distancing measures on construction sites and a deterioration in Japan’s economy. Overall construction commencement value in 2020 is expected to contract 5.8%, while work done value will contract 6.3%. The rebound forecast for work done (+3.5%) value in 2021 is pared back slightly, with stronger recovery now pushed out to 2022 and 2023.​
