Construction delays due to the coronavirus impact, had seen Q1 residential and non-residential floor area completion levels fall significantly across all Chinese cities and provinces. All ongoing sites were reported to have resumed construction by 22ndApril. Productivity is expected to gradually improve, but we still expect it to have contracted in Q2, albeit improving, due to social distancing measures. For the whole year of 2020, total building completions are expected to contract 21.2% y/y (from -17.1% previously), with falls in residential building at -18.5% (from -14.3% previously) and non-residential at -26.9% (from -23%).
