Malaysia: Building and Construction in Malaysia 2020-2024: June 2020 Update

The extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) until June 9, despite a “conditional MCO” beginning May 4, is likely to see construction work done in Q2 to be significantly affected. Subsequently, we have significantly downgraded total construction work done this year to contract 15.7% y/y from 2.9% y/y previously. Work done across the construction sector is generally expected to improve in the coming quarters but remain at below pre-coronavirus levels until H2 2021.
