Government turns on the fiscal taps

Despite financing constraints, the Malaysian government has announced a much larger than expected fiscal stimulus package amounting to MYR250bn, 17.1% of GDP. The additional fiscal measures focus on providing more immediate help to struggling firms and workers, and ensuring adequate liquidity. We now expect the fiscal deficit to widen to 4.6% of GDP this year.
