Philippines: Building and Construction in the Philippines 2020-2024: March 2020 Update

​In work done terms, the outlook for total construction will still be positive into 2020 (+8.2%), albeit lower than the previous forecast of 13.9%. This is largely supported by civil engineering (+14.9%) construction amid an increase in public infrastructure spending . However, falling tourism numbers, declining export growth and external demand as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak will curb non-residential (-15.4%) building activity, which incidentally is coming off last year’s high base. The hotel, retail and office building sectors will take the biggest hit.
