Africa’s emerging role as a global consumer powerhouse

Two decades ago, African consumer spending equated to around 20% of US spending. In five years’ time, that proportion is expected to double. Even when expressed in nominal US dollar terms, countries such as Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire will show some of the strongest consumption growth rates on the planet over the medium term.
