SPD’s leadership change to intensify political gridlock

Political Berlin was put into a tailspin over the weekend as the SPD elected a leftist-leaning new leadership that is highly critical of the party’s current coalition with the CDU. Next weekend’s party congress will clarify the SPD’s new strategy, but it is highly likely that there will be a push for higher public investment and a higher minimum wage to shore up voter support.
