The building sector’s near-term outlook remains negatively impacted by the social unrests triggered by the now-suspended extradition bill. Negative sentiment built up over the six months of unrest, is expected to linger on despite the landslide victory of the pro-democracy camp in the recent district council elections. On top of this, the recession-hit economy will exert downward pressure on demand for residential, commercial and industrial properties in the near-term. This in turn will further dampen building activity that has already been affected by the economic growth slowdown amid the US-China trade tensions.
