Tariff delay offers a Christmas bonus, but tensions remain

US authorities announced a delay on tariffs slated for nearly half the $300bn of targeted Chinese imports. However, it is unlikely that the move marks the start of a broad-based tariff retreat, therefore ongoing trade tensions will continue to be a headwind on economic activity.
