Is Japan finally opening its doors to foreign workers?

The introduction of new visa categories to expand the number of foreign workers coming to Japan is a belated and reluctant step by the government. The policy might mitigate the ongoing labour shortage but is likely to prove insufficient even in the short run. In the absence of further measures, Japan’s demographic pressures will intensify further.
