Most Asian economies have yet to confront the impact of demographic headwinds on growth of the labour force and the economy. Our analysis finds that higher labour participation rates will be insufficient to fully offset the effects of demographic changes on growth of the working-age population. As a result, we think almost all of the region’s economies will experience declines in labour supply growth in the next two decades.
