The cruise sector was hit following the Great Recession by continued increases in capacity while travel demand slowed sharply – deep discounting was required at that time to spur demand. We are now seeing an apparent parallel trend as new cruise capacity spiked in 2022, despite travel remaining well below pre-pandemic norms in most destinations.
