Global chip shortage has peaked, but tight supply will endure

The global semiconductor shortage has passed its peak, as chipmakers have ramped up production significantly since the middle of 2021. Chipmakers have increased both production capacity and utilisation to meet the excess demand.

What you will learn:

  • The auto sector has been the hardest-hit by the chip shortage.
  • While the global chip shortage has eased, we expect it to persist well into 2023 as demand remains strong and chip factories are running at high utilisation rates.
  • The Russia-Ukraine war has raised concerns over the supply of noble gases (Neon, Krypton, and Xenon) critical to the chipmaking process.
